Why your Google Rankings Matter
And why you should be concerned about them
So, you have set up a website for your business. You went all out on getting graphics designed, bought the hosting, spent hours writing content, and purchased a catchy domain.
At first glance, it looks like this is all you need to really take your business to the next level. However, you would be wrong using that sort of logic. You also need to worry about your Google ranking.
What is your Google ranking? Your Google ranking is where you show up when someone types in a specific keyword in the Google search. For example, let’s say you have a motorcycle dealership. When someone goes to Google and types in “motorcycle dealership” your website should appear in the results. Now, if you have a high Google ranking you will appear on the first page of the search results. If you have a low Google ranking, you may appear on the second page or even the tenth page of the search results.
“Why should I be concerned with what my Google ranking is?” you may ask. Well, the simple truth is this; it doesn’t matter how great your graphics are, how well your content is laid out or how catchy your domain name is, if nobody can find your site.
Everyone has heard of Google. Whenever someone first hops online the first page that pops up is Google. Google is everywhere. It is the biggest and most popular search engine there is. When someone goes to find something online, seventy-five percent of the time they will go to Google. If your site is not indexed in Google, you will not be getting the traffic you need to really become successful.
It is not enough to just get indexed in Google though. If you are on page three or four of the Google search results you might as well be waving a flag standing in front of your house, it would be just about as effective at getting traffic to your website. Let’s face it, people are lazy, they don’t want to go through three or four pages of search results to get to what they want. Chances are, they won’t even get to the second page of the search results.
Your goal is to get your website ranked at least on the first page of the Google search results for the specific keyword that relates to your business. Your Google ranking is the difference between customers coming to you, and not going to your competitor down the street.
How do you increase your Google ranking? There are many ways to boost your Google ranking including: article marketing, social media marketing, blog commenting, and even forum posting. If you do not know anything about SEO, then you will likely want to hire an SEO expert to help get you started in the right direction. Proper SEO will launch you to the top of the search results, poor SEO will condemn your website to the last page, where no one is going to see it.
